Opening
lead: J
After
winning trick one with the queen of spades, you
see 8 tricks,
if clubs behave.
Then the most likely ninth
trick is from hearts (two finesses).
But you need two
entries for
two
finesses. You can cash the king-queen
of clubs and lead
the 10 to the ace. Then take a heart
finesse, returning
to dummy later with the 6 of clubs for
another
heart finesse.
But
a better line of play is first to cash the ace of
diamonds,
just in case an honor appears. Then
you have
a sure thing, and now you can afford to play
the clubs
more safely by leading the king and 4 to the ace,
in case
East has four
to the jack.
