After
reading a recent Bridge Today Digest-Online
article about
an 8-4 hand, I recalled this hand from
20 years ago, played
in a duplicate in Sweden. I was
South. After a trump or heart
lead, I would have been
dead, but West led a spade, and I
had the chance of
a lifetime.
I
took it with the ace in dummy and dumped the club
ace from
my hand. What a trick that was!
Then I
passed the jack of clubs, and in due time I was
able
to ruff out the queen of clubs. It wouldn't help for
East
to cover the jack, because I could ruff, go to
the ace
of diamonds and lead another club,
discarding a heart. Two
more
hearts went on the
9 and 8 of clubs, so I had my 12 tricks
(eight
diamonds, only two side aces and two clubs). |
