Opening lead: K

It's a bit strange to call a natural bid "a convention." But this
cuebid is a secret weapon of the expert community. The overcall
of responder's suit is used to show a long, strong suit. North
appreciated his aces and his king of hearts, so he invited game
with a cuebid and then accepting partner's invitation.

After three rounds of diamonds, South ruffed, and started hearts by
leading the 8, planning to take two finesses through West (who
probably held at least one of the heart honors). In this case, the 8
won the trick! Next came a heart to the king and a third heart. East
discarded, not wanting to "ruff air." South then led a club to the
ace and ruffed a club. He ruffed his last heart with the ace of
spades and called for the 10 of spades. Making five! Plus 650. (He
could have been held to four.)
