Opening
lead: J
North's
2
cuebid shows a hand without four spades and game interest.
South should bid 2NT with a heart stopper. North's cuebid
doesn't show
a stopper or deny one; it simply asks partner to bid notrump
if he has one.
If
North bids notrump first, East leads a heart first and the
defenders
have the advantage. It's much better to put West on lead,
since he must
lead away from his heart strength. South wins the heart lead
with the king
and leads a heart back, setting up the queen. He scores nine
easy tricks:
one spade, two hearts, one diamond and five clubs.
