You play low from dummy and win East's 10 with
your jack. At trick two you lead the 3 to the
queen, as both opponents follow. How do you play
the heart suit for three tricks?

Cash the ace of hearts, then lead low to the king,
and low back toward the 10-3. This works when
hearts are 3-3 or when East holds a doubleton
jack, doubleton queen or doubleton Q-J.

Leading to the king first ruins the plan, because you need to be in your hand on the third round of the suit, in order to lead toward the 10-3. Ducking the first round of hearts, and later finessing against West on the third round, works when East has honor doubleton, but loses when East holds Q-J-x.
