Play for a 3-2 split (3-2 or 2-3) and for West to hold
K-Q
doubleton, K-10 doubleton, Q-10 doubleton, or
K-Q-x
(where "x" is the 10, 7 or 6). To
execute this plan, lead
any card you like from your
hand and put in the jack if
West follows with the
6, 7 or 10.
It
doesn't help to lead the 8 or 9 and to let it ride if
West
follows with a spot card. If West holds the Q-10-x
or K-10-x,
he can cover the 8 or 9, holding you to two
tricks. Try
it in the diagram position. You lead the 8.
West plays
the 10; you cover with the jack and East
wins the king.
Next you lead the 9, West covers with
the queen; you win
the ace and West's 6 is high.
