When this hand was played in a team event, one
East bid 4 over
2 and
the other bid only 3.
West
passed 3 and
made four when hearts and
diamonds split 3-2.
East
should bid 4,
not 3.
The principle here is
that when it's close to invite game
or bid game,
you should bid
game, taking the pressure off partner.
Consider a slightly
weaker hand for East, with
king-fourth of hearts or queen-fourth.
East would
still want to invite game (in case his partner
is 5-5
shape), so with two aces, he must bid the game.
