Question and Answer #13
From Pierre

North opens one of a major. The bidding goes on until he bids 4NT, asking for aces. East doubles this! What does this double mean?

I consider the double very dangerous. It gives South the chance to make cheaper calls, like pass or redouble, using the ROPI convention.

But that is not the problem. I want to know what message East is giving his partner. And what would this double mean if North had opened a minor suit?
