Opening
lead: Q
When
Pietro Forquet was South, he let West win
the first
trick!
Then
he won the next diamond lead,
discarding a heart. A trump was
led to
West's ace,
and West played another diamond. Forquet discarded
another
heart, cashed one trump trick and then led
the
ace and king
of hearts. The 7 of hearts ruffed out
the queen,
and a trump to dummy
allowed Forquet to
discard two clubs on the 6 and 4 of hearts.
He
lost
one spade, one diamond and one club, to make
his
game.
Notice
how West can defeat the contract at trick
two? By leading
the
queen, jack or ten of clubs!
Then East's 9 of clubs becomes
an entry
for a
heart ruff.
