At
trick two, your best play is the 3 of hearts.
Partner's raise
and subsequent 4 bid
showed
heart support. His 10-signal surely indicated the
queen. Your
lead of the 3 will tell partner that you
are prepared for
a diamond or club return
(because
the 3 is the middle card of J-3-2; if you had a
clear preference for diamonds, you would lead the jack of
hearts,
and if you had a clear preference for clubs,
you would lead
the 2 of hearts). On this hand,
partner should
win the queen of hearts and return
a low diamond, giving
declarer a difficult guess.
If
partner happened to hold a singleton club, he
would return
a club at trick three instead of a
diamond. By putting partner
on lead, the defense
will be accurate, whereas if you cash
the ace of
hearts at trick two, you won't know what to lead
at trick
three (nor do you want to attack diamonds
from your side).
Have
a nice weekend!
