Opening
lead: A
West
continued with a spade to East's king. How would you play
it?
After
ruffing the second trick, you should lead a low trump from
your hand. If trumps are 3-2, there's no problem, but if they're
4-1, you can still do it!
East
wins the third trick with a trump honor and his best play
is another spade lead. This time ruff in dummy (leaving two
trumps in dummy and the A-7 in your hand) and lead a trump,
letting it ride if East plays low. If West has a second trump
and wins the trick, he can't hurt you. A fourth spade can
be ruffed in dummy and you can come to your hand to draw the
last trump.
If
East covers the second trump lead from dummy, you win and
see the 4-1 split. Now cash three clubs and two diamonds,
followed by club leads from dummy. If East ruffs low, you
can overruff and continue with diamond leads.
