Opening
lead: K
This
hand was played on OKbridge last month. After the
king-of-hearts lead and a club shift by West, it was right
for East to win the ace of clubs and give partner his ruff,
despite the dramatic king-of-clubs play by South.
Don't let him fool you.
The
normal shift from West at trick two is a diamond,
through the ace-third. The club shift, through dummy's
stronger suit, is almost surely a singleton. Dr. Lilian
Reich, of New York City, sitting East, didn't hesitate.
She won the ace of clubs and returned the 6 in a flash.
"Were you trying to fool me?" she wrote to declarer.
