In
real life, South bid 1NT forcing. He could not bid
4,
because
that would have shown a splinter in his
methods. West overcalled
2and
East bid 5.
South had no idea what to do and finally
bid 5,
doubled, down one.
The
solution to this hand is to use 4 natural over
the opening
1.
Everyone will pass and you buy the
contract.
Either
(1) give up the splinter bid in the other major,
or (2) use
3NT as a splinter in the other major, or
(3) use
3NT as a delayed
splinter bid, showing an
unspecified singleton. But keep
the majors
natural!
