When
partner's transfer is doubled, you usually bid the
suit
with 3-card support and pass with a doubleton. You
could
jump to 3 with four of them and a maximum
notrump, but
sometimes you want partner to play the
hand (when you hold
weak hearts). So you bid 3,
transferring back to partner,
showing a maximum hand
with support. (This convention comes
from a suggestion
by Danny Kleinman, of Los Angeles.)
Partner
may bid 3, ending the auction, or bid 4 if he
wants to
play game. If he bids 4, he is transferring
back to you
again!
