Most players are familiar with a 4C or 4H
rebid by West, showing a big hand with a
singleton and support for responder's suit.
But what does the jump to the four level in
your own suit mean? Many partnerships use
this as a strong two-suiter, emphasizing the
two suits rather than the shortness. Notice
how this made it easy for East to picture a
slam, with controls in the side suits but weak
spades and diamonds.
