Named for the inventor, Mike Smolen, this
convention applies at the three level after
responder uses Stayman and opener denies a
four-card major. Responder then shows his
five-card major by bidding his four-card major.
If opener has three-card support, he gets to
declare the hand from (usually) the stronger
side of the table. The convention applies after
a 1NT or 2NT opening.
