The
answer is: 2NT, forcing.
A
recent controversy has developed among the
American Bridge
Teachers
Association concerning
which is a better method to teach
beginners:
the
old 2NT forcing-to-game response, or the modern
2NT (11-12 points) invitational response. Our
opinion is
that not only should
you teach the forcing
style to beginners but even the experts
should
be playing the forcing style!
Many
times 3NT makes with 23 or 24 combined
points, and stopping
on a
dime in 2NT never won
anyone a bridge tournament, as far
as we can
recall. Nor is it much fun.
