This
is a popular method of rebidding after
partner's 2NT response
to a weak 2 or
2 bid.
For example,
Opener Responder
2 2NT
?
3 =
a bad spade suit and a bad
hand
(bad-bad)
3 =
a bad spade suit and a good
hand
(bad-good)
3 =
a good spade suit and a bad
hand
(good-bad)
3 =
a good spade suit and a good
hand
(good-good)
3NT = AKQxxx of spades
This structure is slightly different from the original Ogust.
In that method, 3 showed a good suit and a bad hand, while
3 showed a bad suit and a good hand. The variation presented
today is better, because when you hold a bad suit, it's
preferable to tell partner at the 3 level in case he wants
to suggest hearts as an alternative contract, as in today's
auction.
Tip: To remember the steps, think, first 2 steps show
a Bad suit, next 2 steps a Good suit.
Ogust is usually not played after a third-seat or fourth-seat
weak two-bid.
