Many
players in the tournament world would like
to open 2 with
today's hand, because of the
favorable vulnerability and
the nice spade suit.
But playing standard weak two-bids,
where a
two-bid shows a six-card suit, opener can't
open
2 without
lying to partner about his hand.
Some
partnerships are now playing two types
of weak two-bids.
They open the weaker
(sometimes five-card suit) weak two-bid
with
2 or
2.
They use Multi 2 to
show a standard,
good weak two-bid in either major. This
loses
the natural 2 opening,
but gives them a way
to show two types of weak hands with
a long
major. Today's example
shows how effective a
2 opening
can be. It doesn't always work this
well at the table!
