I
was East on this hand from a USA pairs trials. My
partner
was Don
Krauss. He did well to pull my double
and then did even better
on
defense. At trick two he
shifted to the king of hearts. Even
I was
able to figure
out how to cash out from this point.
Notice
South's wily passes. He didn't fool my partner
(only me).
Meanwhile, if Krauss had continued clubs, or
shifted to a
low heart
and I had switched back to clubs,
declarer would be able
to discard
one heart on the third
diamond honor and then ruff a diamond
to set
up
another discard.

tip: In a cash-out position, show partner what you have. |
