My partner, Charlie Weed, bid 4, and we ended in 5
making five. At the other table, South bid 3NT and went
one down after a diamond lead.

I must admit that I'd probably bid 3NT with Charlie's
hand, because of all the queens and jacks, so I was
lucky that Charlie was sitting there. He figured if I
was moving away from 3NT into a minor, missing
four honors in the suit, I must hold a very distributional
hand. He felt it was his duty to raise and there we were
in the best spot.

Today's tip is: When partner surpises you by bidding
your best suit, it's usually a good idea to raise him.
