in the minors and has already turned up with two hearts.
West has at most one spade. Lead the J to your king and
then run the 6 on the return trip. How clever you are.
You wind up losing two hearts, one club and one diamond
and make your contract.
Yes,
they could have done better in the bidding. With the heart
finesse working and West getting the diamond right, 4 makes, but that's not your problem. East might have competed
to 4. He probably should have competed the round before
to 3. Then West would compete to 4. And if he didn't,
he might have led a club instead of the A. And then you
wouldn't know the distribution and I wouldn't have a column
today!
