When Zia played in 4 in this year's Spingold Teams
final (see the Sept. issue of Bridge Today E-mag) the
defenders led three rounds of spades. He ruffed low,
cashed the ace of hearts, went to dummy in clubs and
led the 6 of hearts to the 8. Notice it would not have
done East any good to play his 10 of hearts on the
second round; declarer could win, finesse diamonds,
cash the ace of diamonds, ruff a diamond and discard
a diamond on the third high club.

If East shows out
on the second trump
lead, go up with the
king and lead one
back. This works
when West has
four trumps and
only three spades.
