South's call is 4.
North's
3 bid showed a heart stopper for 3NT and
denied a spade
stopper. With hearts and spades
stopped, North should bid
3NT over
3, even without
a club stopper (there's no room to cover
every suit
in this sequence).
South
has an awful hand (junky points) and no spade
stopper
as well.
He should retreat to 4. A 4 bid
would show a similar hand,
but with
more prime points
(aces and kings).
