With diamond support you should try to make it
more difficult for the opponents by raising to 4.
On the way to 4, however, you should consider
bidding where your strength is. Your 4 bid will
help partner with his opening lead if South bids
4 or 4.

If partner happens to hold club support and bids
5, you don't mind. You will return to 5, which
should be a very cheap sacrifice.

On the real hand, South did bid 4 and West led
the jack of clubs. East played four rounds of the
suit, promoting a trump trick for down one.
