There
were lots of different results on
this hand from a pair
event. At some
tables, where the auction began
1-2 overcall, North risked
a 2
bid (a negative double is a good
alternative) and East
raised to 3.
When
this was passed around to North,
he doubled for a one-trick
set. North
led the king of spades and switched to
a
heart. South took two hearts and
played a third heart.
North had to score
a trump trick, and the ace of clubs
was
the setting trick. Plus 200 to North-South.
At
one table, where the auction began
1-2-2, East smartly
passed with his
spade stack. South rebid 3 (he would
have
done better to rebid 3, which he
can make for +140), and
North raised
clubs. South suggested 4 as a contract,
and
North corrected to 5, which went
down two, 200 to East-West.
